Introduction to Church Ministries Series

As the Live 1:17 Ministry has grown, many people have come to us to learn how they can replicate our efforts at their own church.  I couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to share what God has done through our ministry.  There is no formula, and there is a really good chance God will not grow your ministry the same way as ours, but I hope you can gain some insight into your next steps.

First, let me introduce myself.  My name is Laura, I am wife to Jason, and mom to Ethan (7), Noelle (5) and Gavin (4).  Gavin was adopted from China at age 2 and has been home for 2 years.  I’ve been involved with Live 1:17, the adoption and foster care ministry of Traders Point Christian Church in Indianapolis, for 6 years, and leading the ministry as a volunteer for the past 3 years.  I was the Foster Care Director for a local bridge organization, Hands of Hope, for one year.  There I equipped other local churches to do the work of orphan care ministry in a variety of ways, including strategic planning sessions.  I also did DCS (Department of Child Services) Engagement and built a relationship with several local offices, and learn how we could meet their needs.  As the Live 1:17 Ministry and the church grew, it became apparent that there was a need to make Live 1:17 a staff position, and I recently accepted and started that job.  Because that isn’t quite enough to keep me busy, I work at a local hospital in the children’s hospital as my first vocation, a pharmacist, on a very part-time basis.

This series will contain a variety of topics including specifics on adoption, foster care, Safe Families, Care Communities, resources, and trauma education and care.  It will also include the framework that I use as I walk churches through strategic planning: Your Purpose, Your Church, You Team, Your Plan, and Yourself.  There will be helpful templates, sample proposals and other tools to lighten your load.

What specific topics would you like to see?  What are you excited to learn?
