Safe Families for Children (SFFC) is a network of host families that extends the community safety net by providing parents in need a loving sanctuary where they can safely place their children in times of crisis. Host Families are screened, trained, and serve without compensation. As a result, SFFC is a voluntary, non-coercive alternative to the state child welfare system. By temporarily freeing parents from the responsibility of caring for their children, SFFC provides them with time to address personal issues without fear of losing custody. The goal of Safe Families is to prevent child abuse, reduce the number of children going into foster care, and strengthen and support families.
